Windows Backgrounds and Mac Backgrounds or Wallpapers

Windows Backgrounds:
Windows or Mac Backgrounds (or Wallpapers)
are displayed on nearly all pages of the site, but here are a few more.
The background pictures have low brightness to save wear on your screen.
Many of the originals were taken on negative or transparency film, using Nikon, Pentax and Olympus cameras, then scanned using a Canon negative and transparency scanner. More recently we have used Canon and Pentax digital cameras with a welcome relief from the need to scan. The cameras and scanner were purchased at the best discount from reputable retailers.
Basic image sizes are 1024 x 768 px. See below for more technical info.
To provide an enlargement of the snaps click on the images then you can download them as Backgrounds if you wish.

For those concerned with the basic technical details, the following may be interesting. Most of the photographs on the site have been taken on negative film (a few were transparencies eg the Indian pictures, taken with a Nikkormat Ftn) with Nikon F70 or F80 single lens reflex cameras (using lenses ranging from 24 mm to 300 mm), a Pentax Zoom 280-P compact camera or an Olympus XA range finder camera. Since March 2002 a Canon G2 digital camera (4Mpx) has been used and the productivity has increased quite considerably. Two years on and a Pentax Optio S4i has been added to the armoury (also 4Mpx), a remarkably miniature device with superb macro features.
The individual negatives or transparencies, produced by the analogue cameras, were scanned using a Canoscan 2700F film scanner. In all cases the resulting digital images were manipulated using PaintShopPro or Adobe software. The thumbnails for the Windows Backgrounds (or Wallpapers, if you prefer) are about 110 x 83 pixels and the enlargements are 1024 x 768 pixels, giving a landscape image ratio of 4:3 (width to height), and of a size which is suitable for many computer displays. Some photographs were taken with alternative hardware and a few are limited in size. All images obtained from external sources are credited and full acknowledgements given.
